An NPS survey tool should do three things beyond asking the question
A real NPS survey tool calculates the score for you, lets you see how it moves over time, and triggers a follow-up when a low score arrives. Any form builder can show a 0 to 10 scale. Not all of them sort the answers into promoters, passives and detractors or alert someone when a detractor replies.
This page compares six tools on those three jobs. It is narrower than our guide to customer feedback survey tools, which covers general satisfaction surveys. If the terms are new, start with what an NPS survey is. Prices were read on each vendor's pricing page on 3 October 2026 and can change.
Six NPS survey tools compared on calculation, follow-up and price
| Tool | Calculates NPS | Follow-up when a score arrives | Entry price | Free tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tally | Yes. Its NPS block shows the score and the three groups in the Insights tab | Conditional logic on the form | Free | Yes. Unlimited submissions under fair use |
| Yay! Forms | Yes. Native NPS question with automatic calculation | Logic routes promoters and detractors; email, Slack and WhatsApp alerts are in the all-plans list but named only on the Plus and Professional cards | Starter: $19 per month billed monthly, $9 billed yearly, 200 submissions a month | No. 7-day trial |
| Nicereply | Yes. CSAT, CES and NPS surveys with analytics | Surveys sent after a ticket is resolved, through helpdesk integrations | Starter: $79 per month billed monthly, $59 billed annually, 100 responses a month | No. 14-day trial |
| Simplesat | Yes. NPS, CSAT, CES and 5-star surveys with dashboards | Helpdesk and CRM integrations pass scores and comments on | Starter: $149 per month billed monthly, $119 billed annually, 300 responses a month | No. 14-day trial |
| Retently | Yes. NPS, CSAT and CES campaigns | Campaign automations plus email, Slack and Teams alerts | Ecommerce Basic: listed at $99 per month for 2,500 surveys | No. 14-day trial |
| AskNicely | Yes. NPS and CSAT surveys | Automated workflows | No public price. Plans start from 500 responses and scale with volume | No |
Delighted, long a common suggestion for a free NPS survey tool, is no longer sold. Its address now leads to a Qualtrics page saying the product is no longer available.
Which NPS survey software shows a trend over time
Trend reporting is where dedicated NPS survey software earns its price. Retently's Basic plan lists advanced reporting, trends and benchmarking. Simplesat lists dashboards and reports, and Nicereply lists feedback analytics on its entry plan.
The form builders are thinner here. Tally's documentation describes a calculated score and a split into promoters, passives and detractors, but we did not find a trend chart described. Yay! Forms says the score is calculated from your full response history and adds a Kanban board for working through detractor replies, but its NPS page does not describe a period-by-period trend view. With either one, expect to export responses and chart the monthly score yourself.
Free NPS survey tools: which have a real free tier
Of the tools above, only Tally has a free tier you can keep using, and its NPS block calculates the score. The others offer time-limited trials, which is not the same thing. When a trial ends you pay to keep the survey running.
Two general tools are also worth knowing. Microsoft's support pages list a Net Promoter Score question type in Microsoft Forms. Google's help pages say a Google Forms linear scale can start at zero and end at ten, which lets you ask the question, though that page does not describe an NPS calculation, so you would work the score out in a spreadsheet. We quote no price for either: Google's Workspace pricing page served euro prices to us, and we did not read a Microsoft price page today. For the wider question, see whether free is enough.
Where Yay! Forms fits as an NPS tool and where it does not
Yay! Forms is a form builder with NPS built in, not a dedicated NPS platform. It suits a small team that sends an NPS link after a purchase or project and wants help with the comments: sentiment and keyword analysis are on every plan, and a native NPS question means no manual sorting.
It does not suit a support desk that wants surveys fired from each closed ticket. Nicereply and Simplesat are built around that. One point to confirm in the trial is detractor alerts on Starter: the pricing page includes email, Slack and WhatsApp notifications in its list of features in all plans, but names them only on the Plus and Professional cards.
Which NPS survey tool to choose by buyer type
- Testing NPS for the first time, no budget: Tally.
- Small business sending a link or QR code, wants comments analyzed: Yay! Forms.
- Support team with a helpdesk: Nicereply for lower volumes, Simplesat for higher.
- Online store surveying after orders: Retently Ecommerce Basic.
- Multi-location service business wanting a managed program: AskNicely, by quote.
Whatever you choose, the tool matters less than what happens after a low score. Our guide to closing the feedback loop covers that step.
