Cost: Google Forms carries no separate charge, Yay! Forms starts at $19
Google Forms is the cheaper choice if you already have a Google account or Workspace, and for internal surveys often the right one. Google lists no separate price for Forms on its product page. It is one of the apps in Google Workspace, alongside Sheets and Drive. Workspace business plans are priced per user per month. Google's pricing page served those prices to us in euros, so we do not quote a dollar figure.
Yay! Forms has no free plan. Starter is $19 a month on monthly billing or $9 a month billed yearly, with 200 submissions a month, as read on 3 October 2026. Plus is $39 or $29 with 2,000. There is a 7-day trial. Our free or paid guide covers when the step up is justified.
Yay! Forms and Google Forms compared on eight criteria
| Criterion | Yay! Forms | Google Forms |
|---|---|---|
| Price to start | $19 a month, or $9 billed yearly | No separate price listed |
| Response cap | 200, 2,000 or 20,000 a month by plan | None stated on the product page |
| Branching | Logic jumps per question, with calculations | Go to section based on answer, for multiple choice and dropdown questions |
| File upload | Listed on every plan | Respondent must sign in to a Google Account |
| Results | AI insights, sentiment, keywords, drop-off rates | Automatic charts and a linked Google Sheet |
| Branding | Themes, logo; badge removed from Plus | Colors, images and fonts |
| Embeds | Inline, full screen, popup, slider, popover, side tab | Link, email, social or embed on a web page |
| Quizzes | Scored quizzes and lead scoring through logic | Answer keys, point values and automatic feedback |
Where Google Forms logic and uploads stop
Two limits in Google's own help pages matter for a customer-facing form. First, branching works by section. Google's instructions say the option to send people to a section based on their answer is available only for multiple choice and dropdown questions. You cannot branch on a rating typed as a number or on a text answer, and each branch is a whole section. Yay! Forms applies logic to individual questions, keeps variables and can choose between several ending pages.
Second, Google states that to answer a file upload question, responders need to sign in to a Google Account, and uploaded files are stored in the form owner's Drive. That is fine for staff and awkward for customers. Yay! Forms lists file uploads on every plan, and its site says respondents need no login to attach a file.
For a customer feedback form, the branching limit is the one that bites. A feedback form that asks unhappy customers a different follow-up than happy ones depends on it. Our rating or comment guide shows how to structure that.
What each tool does that the other does not
Google Forms only: it sits inside Google Workspace. Responses can be stored in a linked Google Sheet that form collaborators get access to automatically, colleagues can work on a form together, and Google says files created in Forms are encrypted in transit and at rest. A respondent signed in to Google has progress saved as a draft for 30 days. Quizzes support answer keys and point values, which suits training and classroom use.
Yay! Forms only: analysis of what people wrote and where they quit. It lists sentiment and emotion detection, keyword extraction, AI-written insight summaries, drop-off rates and a view of incomplete responses. It also offers a one-question-at-a-time format, a ready-made Net Promoter Score question, popup and side tab embeds, and direct connections to tools such as HubSpot, Mailchimp and Slack. Google Forms summarizes answers as charts and leaves comment reading to you.
Who should stay with Google Forms and who should pay
- Stay with Google Forms for staff surveys, event sign-ups, classroom quizzes and any occasional survey where a plain look is acceptable and respondents already have Google accounts.
- Move to Yay! Forms when the form faces customers, you need a different follow-up question for low and high scores, you want to see where people abandon the form, or open comments are going unread.
- Consider Tally instead if you want question-level logic and a cleaner look but must stay at zero cost. See Yay! Forms vs Tally.
A simple rule: if fewer than fifty people a month answer and you read every reply, paying adds little.
What switching from Google Forms involves
A short Google Form is quick to rebuild. Yay! Forms says its AI can draft the structure from a prompt and that its team will rebuild forms at no cost on request. Existing responses stay in your Google Sheet, and Yay! Forms says they can be imported from CSV.
You can keep your reporting sheet. Yay! Forms has a Google Sheets integration that writes each new response to a spreadsheet, so downstream charts keep working once the columns are matched. Replace the old link everywhere it was shared, then close the Google Form to new responses rather than deleting it, because Google warns that deleted responses cannot be recovered. Run a short pilot check on the new form before sending it to customers.
